WULAPALOOZA

I went to WULAPALOOZA on April 27 (Sun).
It is an annual festival that is related to earth, art, and music at Willamette University.

Groups of college students and professional bands performed there.
The weather was pretty good, and I saw many people who were painted with something.
Also, I saw a cotton candy whose color was blue.
I have never seen the color of a cotton candy, so I was so surprised.

I returned to my dorm once. Then I went to WULAPALOOZA again at 7pm.
It was a little cold, so I brought a blanket. I listened to music professional bands performed.
Many people danced in front of a stage.

In addition, I saw a performance with fire. The fire burning in the dark was amazing.
I had a good time.

Spring break

I went to Seattle with my roommate, and I stayed at her house for ten days. It took about six hours from Salem to Seattle. I was so tired, but I was excited because I had never been to Seattle.

The day after I arrived there, her family took me out to an island.
The island is famous for watching whales.I couldn’t see any, but I liked the place since the sea was so beautiful. It reminded me of my hometown.

Also, my roommate guided me around Seattle on Monday. We went to Pike Place Market, and there were many fish, industrial art objects and restaurants. There is the original Starbucks there, so it was crowded with many visitors. We bought some coffee. Moreover, we noticed that the mark of Starbucks is special.

In addition, she told me about the gum wall. Most people don’t know why people put gum on the wall, but the wall is full of chewed gum. It was so interesting. Although I wanted to put gum on wall, I didn’t have a gum. I will try to do it if I have an opportunity to go to Seattle again.

After that, we went to the Space Needle. It is known as the symbol of Seattle by people. When I saw it for the first time, I couldn’t see the top of the Space Needle. It was very high.

On the next day, we went to see cherry blossoms at University of Washington. I thought the university looked older than Willamette University, but it isn’t true. The cherry blossoms were so pretty. Then we went to a library in the university, and we looked the biggest book in the world. It was good.    The library looked like Harry Potter, so I liked the place.

On March 29, we dyed eggs for Easter. It was so fun. We made colorful eggs. I was interested in Easter because most Japanese don’t have this event. I had good time over spring break. I thank my roommate and her family.

I will study English hard, and I hope I have an opportunity to go to Seattle again.

PowWow

A pow wow is the Native American people’s way of meeting.

I went to a pow wow on March 9.

First of all, when I went there, I noticed Native American people wore traditional clothes.

Each piece of clothing was a little different, and they wore an eagle feather

on their head and the back. An eagle feather is worn and touched by only men.

Women wore clothes like a KIMONO and a shawl.

Second, I saw their dancing. Dancing is very important for them.

Their dance is unique because they move their legs with short quick two steps.

When I joined the dance, I was a little scared because I saw that they didn’t smile while dancing.

However I felt powerful, and a drum rhythm and their voices were moving.

Third, I ate Fry Bread. I decorated it with butter and jam, so it was good for me.

The taste was sweet. Finally, I looked at industrial art object such as beadwork and stones.

It looked beautiful, so I wanted it. Indeed, a pow wow was a good opportunity to meet

and know Native Americans.

If you have never been to a Pow wow, you should go there.
